Restat, the 6th largest Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) according to Business Insurance, announced today that it will present a poster during the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) 22nd Annual Meeting & Showcase, held April 7-10 in San Diego, California. Scott Draeger, Restat’s Pharm D Director of Clinical Services and Jill Harding, Restat’s Clinical Pharmacist, will present the professional abstract entitled, "Prevalence of Diabetes and Lipid-Lowering Medications by Antipsychotic Drug in a Commercial Population."

The team performed a retrospective analysis of commercial pharmacy claims on antipsychotic claims submitted between August 2008 and August 2009. Draeger said the data was then analyzed to identify those antipsychotic claims with concomitant claims for diabetes and lipid-lowering medications. “We concluded that consistent monitoring of metabolic parameters in patients receiving antipsychotic medication is an important step in controlling cardiovascular risk,” said Draeger. “Implementing a more coordinated approach to patient care may help improve the health of this population.”

The information provided will populate the onsite final program as well as other AMCP publications, including the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy (JMCP). This study was conducted in conjunction with Pfizer.
